Stadium Attack, known in PAL regions as Buzz Attack Part 1 and in Japan as Hiroki Attack Part 1 (ヒロキアタックパート1), is a level in Ape Escape where Spike and Jake battle in a race. This is the first in a series of battles against Jake, the second being Gladiator Attack and the third being Chariot Attack, which is part of the level Monkey Madness.

In Ape Escape: On the Loose, this level is known as Jake Attacks Part 1 in both English regions.

Strategy[]

Obstacles: The race course follows a narrow, winding path that crosses a pool of water, some square platforms over lava, a short slippery ramp over a drop, another pool of water that curves to the right, and finally some spinning ball-and-chain flails at the end.

Jake's Jump: One advantage that Jake has over Spike is that he doesn't need to double jump, vaulting over obstacles in a single bound. This allows him to move quickly through the lava section. Inexperienced players should not attempt to replicate his pattern of single jumps, and instead focus on landing them with a double jump.

The Slide: Jake may be quick on the jumps, but he is slow to get back on his feet after the slide. Jump off the slide to get a speed boost.

Breaking the Chains: The flails at the end of the level can hurt the player if they touch the ball part of the flail, but the chains do not. Players can pass through the chains unharmed.

Restart Level: To restart the race, press Start, Squareicon for the Exit menu, then go down to Retry.

Par Time: Jake will cross the finish line at approximately 01'03"00.

Reward[]

If the player wins, they will receive 5 Specter Coins, which can be used to unlock Minigames. It is not necessary to win the race in order to proceed to the next level, however winning will count towards a 100% completion rating.

Trivia[]

  • This is the only time the player can run around as Spike without a gadget in hand, apart from the Water Net. Even in the Water Net training room, Spike is equipped with a Stun Club.
  • In the original version of this level and Gladiator Attack, Jake's quotes at the end are "You're pretty good, but it's not over yet!" if he wins, and "I'll go up against you anytime you want!" if Spike wins. This is an error, as both quotes are supposed to be reversed.
  • In the PlayStation Portable remake Ape Escape: On the Loose (aka Ape Escape P), this level is featured in the Jake Attacks Minigame. Despite appearances, it is the only level in the Minigame.
  • The names "Stadium," "Gladiator," and "Chariot" are references to the ancient Roman Gladiator games. The word "stadium" by definition implies that the arena is being watched by spectators, although none are visible in the level. It does not become clear until Chariot Attack that Spike and Jake are being watched.
  • Stadium and Gladiator Attack both take place in Dimension X (aka "Dimension"), the same location as the final level of the game, Peak Point Matrix. The exact nature of Dimension X, who built the obstacle courses, and how Jake is able to coordinate with Spike in order to meet, is never explained.
