Trivia[]
- The name "Wabi Sabi Temple" from Ape Escape: On the Loose was changed from the original US Ape Escape in an attempt to match the meaning of the Japanese version. The Japanese name for the level is わびさびテンプル, which directly translates as Wabi Sabi Temple. Wabi-sabi is a form of Japanese aesthetics associated with Buddhism, hence the giant statue of Buddha in the temple. The original PAL Ape Escape translated Wabi Sabi as tranquil which, while this was a decent translation, there is more to the meaning of Wabi Sabi than just tranquility, and this is likely the reason it was changed for the remake.
- Not to be confused with Wabi Sabi Wall from the original game, which On the Loose refers to as Tiki Tiki Wall.[2]
- Donkey, mentioned in the PAL version of Ape Escape, carries the description "In wrong game" and might be a reference to Donkey Kong.
- Chunky, from the NTSC-U/C version of Ape Escape, might be a reference to Chunky Kong. The original Ape Escape was released May 31st 1999, whereas Chunky Kong's first appearance was in Donkey Kong 64, released November 22nd 1999, several months later. Promotional materials for Donkey Kong 64 date back to 1998, however.
- B-Diddy, mentioned in Ape Escape: On the Loose, is a reference to American rapper Sean Combs, aka P. Diddy.
- According to the level Monkey Madness, the monkeys B-Diddy, Method Monkey, and Wook-E Wook/Ukk-E-Ukk from Wabi Sabi Temple have descendants following in their footsteps: B-Diddy Jr., Method Monkey Jr., and Wook-E Wook Jr./Ukki-E Ukk Jr., respectively. The PAL version's "Ukki-E Ukk Jr." is inconsistent with his father's name.
